The Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA) was established over 30 years ago to serve as dedicated and cohesive trade organization for the Thai gems and jewelry industry. The founding mission and vision was to advocate the growth and development of Thailand’s age-old gems and jewelry craft to become one of the leading hub in the world for gems and jewelry manufacturing and trade.

Thailand’s distinctive and refine skills and craftsmanship in gems and jewelry has developed into some of the finest in the world. With the professional support of the TGJTA, efforts are given to enhance quality and design have met with overwhelming success. Advances in the use of technology and machinery in the manufacturing process have also aided in the industry’s development. The gem and jewelry industry has grown to become one of the Thailand’s top export category with exports in 2012 exceeding US$14 Billion.

The TGJTA works closely with the Royal Thai Government, in particular the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) of the Ministry of Commerce. Both government and private institutions are dedicated to providing training and education in the fields of gems and jewelry production. These programs range from gemological training, gem cutting, to jewelry design and manufacturing methods. Standards for Thai gems and jewelry are established according to strict academic discipline to meet international requirements for quality products. Thailand’s expertise is recognized worldwide as seen in the number of foreigners who come to Thailand for training, as well as in the number of foreign companies who manufacture their products with Thai manufactures.

The Thai government, in close cooperation with the private sector, continues to make advances in all these areas of training and also puts forth great effort in encouraging those in the industry by holding design contests and seminars aimed at furthering the skills of workforce.

The TGJTA also co-organizes the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) biannually with the DITP to help establish Thailand as the world’s gems and jewelry hub and form new trade partnership to help grow exports.

The outstanding growth and success of the fair is a testament to the achievements in the industry as it represents the acceptance of products manufactured in Thailand in the worldwide marketplace.
